German manufactured fermentation pot. This traditional pot is suitable for almost all types of vegetables including cabbage, pumpkin, cucumber, carrots, and more. Stoneware does not require special storage or care and is neutral for all fermented vegetables.

The new pot is a dark brown color and it is supplied complete with lid, weighting stones, and instruction booklet.

Schmitt fermenting crock

Purchased the 5 liter fermenting crock and it looks perfect for my needs. Debated about getting a larger crock but am glad I got this one as it will ferment plenty of vegetables for my family. As others have noted, the bottom is quite rough as I found out when I set it on my wood table after taking it out of the box. Won't happen again.

I waited to write my review because I wanted to report on how my first batch of sauerkraut turned out. I'm happy to report that the crock produced an amazing first batch of sauerkraut. Homemade sauerkraut tastes unbelievably better than commercially produced kraut. I'm very glad I opted to use a crock instead of any other method. The crock allows me to keep the product clean. It also allows me to make a sizable batch. The Schmitt crock is the only one I've used so I have no frame of reference. But I am happy with the outcome and a reasonable price. I would recommend this crock.

Let's make sauerkraut

This is our first time using the Gairtopf and have probably another week before our sauerkraut is done. In the past, I have made sauerkraut in glass jars so this is my first time not being able to see the fermentation. I can hear and see the bubbles escaping, which make a "bloop" sound, so I know fermentation is taking place. We put 3 heads of cabbage along with the seasonings into the pot and there was still plenty room for more. So far, so good!

Best price I found. Easily held 12# of cabbage (4 cabbages). Anything larger can't easily be stored on the kitchen counter top. However, the unfinished bottom was rough & scratched the counter surface, so we glued some felt to it.

Looked around the internet for crock pots and found the best quality/price with Harvest essentials. I received my order very quickly and was well packaged. Immediately saw the quality of the crock pot and used it the next day to start my first batch of fermented sauerkraut. I thought the quality/price was so good, I ordered the next larger size so we would have staggered processing of fermenting vegetables. Unit is very attractive, so we have it in our kitchen. Very Easy and Fun!

I made my first fermented dish. I shredded sweet potatoes added one clove of chopped garlic, a nob of chopped ginger, salt, some purified water to cover and let it ferment for 10 days. It is delicious! I put it in mason jars and refrigerated them. I look forward to fermenting some winter squash that I grew in my garden and fermenting some red beets that are in the garden now. This pot really helps me preserve all my garden verggies. I also feel the health benefits, better digestion. Thank you!

I bought this crock for my son. There was an issue with the lid being chipped so I contacted them and they replaced the lid for me with no problems( I did send them pictures of the damage). I too wish for English instructions. Waiting for my son to use this to make sauerkraut!

The items I purchased were a gift to my daughter. She absolutely loves the huge crockery bowl and the fermenting pot. She will get lots of use from them. I want the bowl set. I haven't purchased it yet but it's in my thoughts that I will get the set.

This is the 3rd fermenting crock pot I have purchased from Harvest Essentials - one for me and two for gifts. I use it for making sauerkraut and it makes the best I have ever had! The design is basic and simple, but the quality of this pottery is excellent and necessary for fermenting. Certainly worth paying a little extra and it will last for generations! The only thing I would change are the directions as they are written in German. However, it was easy to find instructions for making sauerkraut online.
